RON97 petrol price increased to RM2.15 per liter

06 November 2010 - The price of RON 97 petrol has increased by five cents to RM 2.15 per litre, reflecting global oil prices that have been trending upwards. Since the higher-grade RON 97 is neither taxed nor subsidised by the government, prices will fluctuate in accordance with international market prices.

Comparing the RM 2.15 per litre of RON 97 with RM 3.80 per litre in Thailand, Petrol Dealers Association Malaysia president Datuk Hashim Othman assures that the government is keeping an eye on the petrol price, preventing oil companies from hiking prices out of proportion.

The previous round of fuel price hikes in July raised the prices of RON 95, RON 97 and diesel by five cents per litre. RON 95 and diesel prices are subsidised and controlled, and remain unchanged at RM 1.85 per litre and RM 1.75 per litre, respectively. RON 97’s pricing has been subjected to a managed float since July.
