22 May 2011 - The implementation of the biodiesel B5 mandate which is targeted to begin early next month, will not inconvenience motorists, as the price mechanism will be determined by the Ministry of Finance (MOF).
Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Tan Sri Bernard Dompok said the government would introduce the biodiesel B5 in stages, starting with Putrajaya.
"The price will be fixed by the MOF and we have chosen the petrol stations to initially offer the product in Putrajaya," he told reporters at the Palm International Nutra-Cosmeceutical 2011 (PINC 2011) conference here Thursday. Also present was the Chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Palm Council (MPOC), Datuk Lee Yeow Chor and its Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri Datuk Dr Yusof Basiron.
Malaysia is committed to pushing the Green Technology (GT) agenda as a key source of sustainable economic growth while safeguarding the environment. The country has targeted to reduce its carbon emission intensity by up to 40 per cent.
It was reported earlier that the government had allocated RM200 million to establish facilities nationwide to blend diesel with palm methyl ester from June to kick-start sales of the green fuel, after a five-year delay.Meanwhile, today's event, themed, "Bioactives for a Healthy Lifestyle", is organised to highlight and showcase the Malaysian palm bioactive industry and revisit the numerous developments within the nutra-cosmeceutical industry.
The two-day event, which began today, would see the presentation of papers deliberating the role and benefits of palm tocotrienols, carotenoids and phenolics.Other relevant areas include anti-aging properties of palm tocotrienols and the new area of palm phenolics and what can be anticipated from these new-found palm bioactives.
